Audra Mcdonald stands out in the range of her talents and her versatility as an actor and singer. Audra McDonald, winner of Six Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was named as one of Times magazine's 100 most influential people. The president Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -the highest honor in America for excellence in this area. As a result of her beautiful tone, and unbeatable ability of telling compelling stories She has had success in Broadway and at the opera as well as in both film and television. Aside from her theater work, McDonald also has a thriving career as an internationally acclaimed recording and concert artist. McDonald was raised in a musically inclined family in Fresno, California. She was a classical singer who received training from her school, the Juilliard School of New York. In 1994, just a few years following her graduation from Juilliard School, she won the Tony Award for "Best Performance by a Leading Actress in Musical" for Carousel. The following four years she was awarded two more Tony Awards for the category of featured actress. The show she was in Broadway premier productions of Terrence McNally's musical Ragtime as well as Terrence McNally's show Master Class in 1996. This was an incredible total of three Tony Awards by the time she turned 30. In 2004 she was nominated to win her 4th Tony Award. McDonald is also featured for other productions in the theatre such as The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999), Henry IV 2004 110 in the Shade (2006) Twelfth Nigh (2009); this was her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut show, Shuffle Along Or the Making of the Musical Sense of 1921 And All That Followed (16) Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune (192019) as well as Ohio State Murders (2023) The Peabody Award-winning CBS program Having Our Say The Delany Sisters The First 100 Years that first introduced McDonald to television audiences as a dramatic actress. In 1999, she starred along with Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. Also, she had an occasional role in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in the year 2000. McDonald's Emmy nominated performance as Emma Thompson on Mike Nichols' HBO film adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winner Wit was written by Mike Nichols. McDonald's return to television networks came in 2003 in which she co-starred with Josh Brolin in Mister Sterling. The Bedford Diaries, a WB television series that debuted in the year 2006. She then had the privilege of playing a regular role in NBC's Kidnapped within the next year. In 2016, McDonald was nominated for an additional Emmy Awards for her performance in HBO's Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, a film-special. The Bite is a drama with six seasons based around a pandemic, coproduced by Spectrum Originals & CBS Studios. She appeared alongside Taylor Schilling & Steven Pasquale. McDonald first played U.S. lawyer Liz Lawrence (now Liz Reddick), in the CBS law-and-order thriller The Good Wife, in 2009. In 2018, she recast her role on The Good Fight for Paramount+ as a series regular. Her performance received three Critics Choice Award Nominations. She is currently acting as a guest in Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which premieres on HBO.
